(Sorry for so many retirement posts, but it will be over soon, I promise!)

Last Friday was my retirement dinner.  To say I was nervous would be an enormous understatement.  I almost made myself sick.  Talking in front of people is not my thing, and crying in front of people is even worse.  I was determined to make it through a short speech without a tear.  So on my way home from work I drove around and around and around with the stereo cranked to Bon Jovi’s Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night song while I read my words out load over and over and over until I could finish without choking up.  That song easily played ten times!

Hey man I’m alive I’m takin’ each day and night at a time
Yeah I’m down, but I know I’ll get by
Hey hey hey hey, man gotta live my life
Like I ain’t got nothin’ but this roll of the dice
I’m feelin’ like a Monday, but someday I’ll be Saturday night

When I got to the party I was completely overwhelmed by the turnout.  Almost 90 people.  This was going to be harder than I anticipated.  But I made it and it was an evening I will never forget.

As a ‘Thank You’ to the staff we had cupcakes delivered Monday morning from Laurie Carvalho of the Dutch Girls Baking Company.  I told Laurie to pick the flavors and decorate them Summer Festive.  We ordered eight dozen and I thought for sure that would be too many.  Not!!  One thing I can say about our staff is that we love Laurie’s cupcakes!!  She made strawberry, pineapple, lemon and German chocolate.  Delicious… every one!  If you ever want special cookies, cupcakes or a cake made, give her a call.  You won’t be disappointed.

On a side note, after the party I was mentally exhausted and could hardly wait to hit the pillow.  But sleep did not come easily.  Why?  Because I could not get Bon Jovi’s song out of my head!!

My name is Billy Jean, my love was bought and sold
I’m only sixteen, I feel a hundred years old
My foster daddy went, took my innocence away
The street life ain’t much better, but at least I get paid

And Tuesday just might go my way
It can’t get worse than yesterday
Thursdays, Fridays ain’t been kind
But somehow I’ll survive

Hey man I’m alive I’m takin’ each day and night at a time
Yeah I’m down, but I know I’ll get by
Hey hey hey hey, man gotta live my life
Like I ain’t got nothin’ but this roll of the dice
I’m feelin’ like a Monday, but someday I’ll be Saturday night
