I am always looking for places to go for a day trip.

I was ready to toss an information pamphlet we received when we checked into the Plymouth 49er RV Park a few weeks ago, but the “Things to do in Amador County” sparked my interest.  Most of the things listed were been there… done that, except for Kennedy Mines.  I love ghost towns and even tho this was different it sparked my interest.

What did we have to lose?  We packed up Kari and headed out on Saturday to check out the Kennedy Mine in Jackson.

I LOVED IT!  We were free to roam around the entire place or pay to have a docent give us a tour.  Since I had printed out the Self Guided Tour information and I knew I wanted to take pictures we chose to go on our own.  A 2.5 mile loop took us through the remnants of the old gold mine.

You can go to http://www.kennedygoldmine.com/ to get the full history of the mine.  I think you will find it interesting.  It is only open on weekends March through October.  I would suggest going early in the season before all the green dries up and the snakes come out!

If you go, bring a picnic lunch, and let me know how you like it.
